The Cornish landscape that inspired one of my first oils.

I’m Clare L Jones, a British artist living in the United States, with a love of watercolor, acrylics and the natural world.
My paintings are inspired by the things that make me stop and look — birds, wildlife, beautiful landscapes and the places I discover on my travels.
Art has been part of my story for much longer than Clare L Jones Art. I first fell in love with it when I was young, then put my brushes down for many years before rediscovering just how much painting means to me.
Art was a big part of my life when I was young. I took art classes at school, was placed in an advanced group and was fortunate enough to take my art exams early and do very well.
But, as so often happens, life came along. I put down my brushes at 18 and for many years art simply disappeared from my life.
I didn't know then that I would eventually find my way back to it.

In 2019, art unexpectedly found its way back into my life when I took my mum on a painting holiday to Cornwall, England.
Mum had always been creative too. She loved pencil drawing when she was younger but, like me, life took over and art was put to one side for many years.
For three days in Cornwall, we picked up brushes and learned to paint in oils. It was my first time painting since I was 18, and there was something rather special about the two of us rediscovering our creativity together.

Surrounded by the beautiful Cornish coastline, I completed my first oil paintings in decades.
Mum continued her own creative journey and now paints in both watercolor and oils. As for me, when I returned home, the brushes somehow found their way back into the cupboard.
I didn't realize it at the time, but those few days in Cornwall had planted a seed. Seven years later — and after a move from Florida to Indiana — I would finally pick them up again.

Learning to paint from life and photographs in Cornwall.

Three days, lots of paint, and the beginning of finding my way back to art.
A NEW CHAPTER · 2026
Finding My Way Back to ArtIn 2026, after moving from Florida to Indiana, I decided I needed a new hobby. Almost on a whim, I picked up my brushes again.
This time, something clicked.
I quickly realized just how much I had missed creating. What started as a way to fill some time became something that brought me a genuine sense of joy and peace.
I began experimenting with watercolor and acrylic, trying different subjects and techniques and, most importantly, simply enjoying the process of learning and painting again.
Before long, I knew this wasn't going to be another brief return to art. I had rediscovered something I'd loved all those years ago — and this time I wasn't ready to put my brushes away.

Nature has always been where I find the most inspiration. I’m particularly drawn to birds, wildlife and landscapes — the colors, changing light and little details that make you stop and look twice.
I also love to travel, and since returning to painting I've found myself looking at the places I visit through an artist's eyes. A dramatic landscape, a beautiful coastline, an interesting bird or simply the way the light falls somewhere can all spark an idea for a future painting.
Going forward, I hope my travels will become an even bigger part of my art. I love the idea of bringing home more than photographs — returning with memories, colors and moments that can find their way onto paper or canvas.
For me, that's one of the joys of painting. Inspiration really can come from anywhere.

Every painting I create is part of this continuing journey — inspired by nature, wildlife, places I've visited and moments that simply capture my imagination.
I hope you'll enjoy exploring my latest original paintings and fine art prints, and perhaps find something that speaks to you.
