A vibrant hummingbird hovers for a fleeting moment beside a brilliant red hibiscus in Hummingbird & Hibiscus, an expressive original watercolor filled with color, movement and energy.
Loose washes of turquoise, green, gold and soft pink create a colorful, flowing backdrop, while delicate linework and richer detail draw the eye to the hummingbird and flower. The contrast between the vivid red hibiscus and jewel-like colors of the bird gives the painting a wonderfully tropical feel.
I wanted this piece to capture that split-second moment when a hummingbird arrives at a flower — wings in motion, brilliant colors flashing, and then almost as quickly, it's gone again.
Presented in a green mat that complements the foliage and allows the red hibiscus to really stand out, Hummingbird & Hibiscus is a joyful, one-of-a-kind celebration of color and nature.
